
Dr. Lluis Aguilar Fernández

Spine Surgery, Traumatology, and Orthopedics
Holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Hospital Universitari del Mar in Barcelona. He was awarded a grant to develop a three-dimensional model for osteoblast cultures and is also a specialist in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
After working as an orthopedic consultant in various hospitals (Hospital Dr. Trueta, Hospital del Mar), he spent two years in Bad Wildungen at the Werner Wicker Klinik (Deutsche Skoliose Zentrum-II) as a visiting, assistant, and associate surgeon under the direction of Prof. Metz-Stavenhagen. There, he received extensive training in deformity surgery and in cervical, thoracic, and lumbar degenerative pathology, mastering various approaches to spinal disease treatment—anterior, lateral, and posterior.
Returned to Barcelona and began an active career as a spine surgeon. He continued his training at the University of Bochum with Prof. J. Krämer and Dr. R. Krämer, focusing on pain treatment techniques and minimally invasive spine surgery.
He was Head of the Spine Unit at Hospital Plató from 2005 to 2021.
Has participated in various multicenter studies and has collaborated with the industry to develop products in the spinal field (Biomet, Spineart…).
Dr. Aguilar has been a professor in the Faculty of Physiotherapy at the University of Girona and has actively participated in medical education, teaching Orthopedics and Rheumatology in the Medicine Degree program at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, where he has been a Spine Surgery Consultant since 2021.
In the private sector, he has collaborated with various trauma groups and medical centers (CM Teknon, Clínica del Pilar), and since 2004, he has been the founder and medical director of Spinel•li (Group for the Study and Treatment of Spinal Diseases), focusing his practice at Clínica Corachán.
He collaborates with various national and international professional associations.
